Acceptable Use
Last updated: 2026-08-15
This policy is part of our Terms of Service and applies to all use of PlayEmojis by every player — signed in or not, in every room, with Safe Mode on or off. It covers everything you write in the game — puzzles, answers, hints, guesses, nicknames, room names, reports — and how you use the service itself.
PlayEmojis is a party game built for inside jokes. Private rooms are meant to be a bit rude. This policy is the floor under that, not a tone guide.
By using PlayEmojis you represent and warrant that your content and conduct comply with this policy. We rely on that representation: we do not pre-review what players write, we have no obligation to monitor for violations, and nothing in this policy creates one.
1. Content that is never allowed
Anywhere in PlayEmojis, in any room, with Safe Mode on or off, you may not write or share:
- Content that sexualises a minor, in any form, however framed. There is no joke exception. We report this to the authorities where we are required or permitted to.
- Content that is illegal where you are or where we operate, or that is unlawful for us to host or transmit.
- Terrorist content, or content promoting or celebrating mass violence.
- Threats of violence against a person or group, or content that incites violence.
- Hate content — attacking or dehumanising people for who they are: race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Targeted harassment of another player, including pile-ons and content written to identify, humiliate or expose a specific person.
- Other people's private information — real names paired with addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, or anything else that identifies someone who did not choose to be identified.
- Sexual content involving real, identifiable people who have not consented.
- Content that infringes intellectual-property rights you do not hold — see the Copyright & IP Policy for how rights holders can reach us.
- Content that impersonates someone else in a way designed to deceive.
2. Nicknames and room names
These appear on public surfaces — the arena feed, scoreboards, streams — so we filter them automatically, always, in every room. Slurs and the categories in section 1 are rejected outright rather than flagged for later. Pick something you would be happy to see on someone else's screen. Filters are best-effort automated tools; that they exist creates no duty, and that something slips past them makes it no more allowed.
3. Safe Mode
Public arenas run with Safe Mode on. Private party rooms can turn it off, because friends set their own line and we are not going to referee an inside joke between six people who all know each other.
Safe Mode changes what we screen automatically. It does not change section 1, which applies in every room regardless — and it is not a promise that a Safe-Mode room will be free of anything in particular.
4. Using the service
You may not:
- probe, break, overload, disrupt or test the security of the service, or access data, rooms or accounts that are not yours;
- automate play — bots, scripts, macros, or anything that guesses or composes for you;
- scrape, crawl or bulk-extract the puzzle library or any other part of the service, or use any of it to train or build an AI model or dataset (see the Terms, section 6);
- evade a ban, a removal or a restriction by making a new player, a new account or a new room, or help someone else do so;
- misrepresent who you are to us or to other players in a way designed to deceive;
- resell access to the service, or use it to advertise, spam or distribute anything unrelated to playing it;
- interfere with rate limits, quotas or any technical control of the service.
Streaming and recording gameplay are welcome — see the streamer page.
5. Enforcement
We may remove or restrict content, close rooms, and restrict, suspend or ban players and accounts, as described in section 4 of the Terms. We decide case by case, at our reasonable discretion, and we look at what was written rather than who reported it.
We do not read every room. We act on reports, on the automated filters described above, and on what we notice. Not acting in one case does not mean a thing is allowed, does not waive our right to act in another, and — to the maximum extent permitted by law — neither action nor inaction under this policy gives rise to any liability to you or to anyone else, or to any right to a refund or other remedy. Players who repeatedly infringe others' rights are terminated in accordance with the Copyright & IP Policy; we may also restrict or terminate an account for a single sufficiently serious violation of this policy.
If we act against you, you can appeal — see section 4 of the Terms. A human reviews appeals.
This policy protects the service and its players; it confers no rights on anyone else and creates no duty owed to any third party, including people who submit reports.
6. Reporting a breach
Use the 🚩 on any revealed answer for anything wrong, broken or objectionable.
For content you believe is illegal, use the Report illegal content form, or write to the legal address at the foot of this page. For copyright complaints, follow the Copyright & IP Policy.
Reports made in bad faith — knowingly false, aimed at burying a rival, or filed in volume to waste our time — are themselves a violation of this policy and may lead to suspension of reporting privileges or of your account.
